DISCUSSION:

The Leader of the Council introduced the report and placed on record his thanks on behalf of the Cabinet, for the work of Members and Officers for bringing forward the Corporate Plan.  It was now for the Cabinet to deliver against the priorities outlined within the plan.

The Portfolio Holder for Community Affairs welcomed the addition of arts and heritage to the Corporate Plan which were of particular importance.

The Portfolio Holder for Economic Development highlighted the strapline “delivering a prosperous New Forest” and the importance of placing local businesses at the heart of this prosperity.

The Portfolio Holder for Housing Services reported on the ambition within the Corporate Plan for a Shared Ownership Scheme which would be reported to Cabinet in April 2020.  The scheme would offer individuals, often from the private rented sector who could not afford to buy on the open market, with the opportunity to purchase a share in property in a stair cased manner, until the option to own outright was available.  This presented the Council with an exciting opportunity which would be challenging but with the potential to deliver in many ways for this group of local people.

The Portfolio Holder for Environment and Regulatory Services welcomed the opportunity to place the environment at the heart of future decision making, through the implementation of the proposed Environment Strategy.

The Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing emphasised the priority of the Council, through the ongoing Health and Leisure Review, to continue providing a truly affordable and accessible leisure offering whilst returning an income to the Council for investment in services.
