Purpose:
This report relates to an application made to
the Council by Totton & Eling Town Council (“the
Nominator”) to nominate The New Inn public house, 5-7 Main
Road, Totton, Southampton SO40 7EP (“the Property”) as
an asset of community value (“the Application”). The
report reviews the Application, the criteria against which a
decision must be made, the result of consultations and makes
recommendations.
Decision:
In the opinion of the local authority, whilst
there is a time in the recent past when an actual use of the
building or other land that was not ancillary use furthered the
social wellbeing or social interests of the local community, it is
not realistic to think that there is a time in the next five years
that there could be non-ancillary use of the building or other land
that would further (whether or not in the same way as before) the
social wellbeing or social interests of the local community and is
therefore not of community value and therefore may not be
listed.
It does not therefore meet the criteria set out in the Localism Act
2011 to be eligible for listing.
